The Edge3
Great display and great performance comes from the Vexilar Edge3. Not only do you have a dynamic 76,800 pixel display, but now it's in color! With four background color options and six different color display options, the super bright TFT screen display is easy to see even in bright sunlight.
The Edge3 uses the same twin transducer system made popular with the Edge2. You have a wide angle 38° cone and a narrow 10° cone running at the same time. With the Edge3, you can even overlap the two cones on the same display for easy comparison.
The Edge3 also has quick one touch button functions that allow you to easily find your favorite display functions. It features a fish alarm, temperature readout, clean line controls for bottom target separation, digital depth readout, zoom settings, four pre-set mode options and a digital voltage display. The Edge3 delivers superior performance, and uses a remarkably simple menu program that is easy to master.

The Edge in Zoom
Using the zoom feature of the Edge 3 LCG will give you the ability to distinguish fish that are right on the bottom from bottom structure. Highly pressured fish will tend to be very close to the bottom and can look like structure. The zoom feature will allow you to see the smallest of space between a bottom fish and the actual bottom. It also allows you to better judge the size of an individual fish.
When first starting to use a new LCD graph, position your boat over known structure, somewhere you know the bottom content. Get a feel for what different types of structure and bottom type look like. Carry that knowledge to areas where you maybe aren't sure of bottom content or structure.
Precision Graphing at Real Speed
The Edge3 color LCD depth finder is a high performance unit that is simple to setup and use.
First off, the unit utilizes two transducers, a narrow cone and a wider cone. This enables you to see what is directly under the boat as well as off to the side. On steep breaks, the narrow cone allows you to see within the dead zone that a wide-angle transducer would miss. And every angler knows that steep breaks are fish hideouts.
Secondly, the unit allows me to easily switch display modes so I can have the graph update info at the speed I am traveling. At full speed, I set the update rate at the highest level. When I slow down the boat and idle to investigate structure, I can just switch modes with a push of a button and slow down the update rate for better definition. This gives me an advantage of getting positive I.D. of fish below.
The Edge for Transition Lines
Fishing transition areas can be key to finding fish. I use the Vexilar Edge 3 that has a bottom hardness indicator like no other sonar on the market. The indicator uses numbers and a colored bar to indicate soft to hard bottom. This takes the guess work out of trying to read transition and also helps me locate these areas quickly saving me valuable time on the water. I also use a Vexilar FL-12 next to my Edge 3. This allows for even more coverage of the bottom and target ID.
